Our commitment

Children and young people have the right to enjoy baseball in an environment where they feel safe, included, listened to and respected.

Safety first

We put the wellbeing of children and young people ahead of convenience, results or reputation.

Respect always

We expect respectful behaviour from players, coaches, officials, parents, volunteers and spectators.

Speak up early

Concerns should be raised early and taken seriously, even when they feel small or uncertain.

Shared responsibility

Everyone involved in the club has a role in keeping children safe and supported.

Victorian Child Safe Standards

The Demonstrators aim to align club practices with the Victorian Child Safe Standards. This includes building a child safe culture, promoting inclusion, listening to children, supporting families, managing risks and responding properly to concerns.

  • We promote child safety in our club culture and decision-making.
  • We encourage children and families to participate and speak up.
  • We aim to create inclusive environments for children of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • We expect suitable behaviour from adults working with children.
  • We take complaints, concerns and incidents seriously.
Working With Children Checks

Coaches, team managers, committee members and volunteers working with children may be required to hold a valid Victorian Working with Children Check.

The club may request WWCC details before a person commences a child-facing role and may periodically review these details during the season.

  • Coaches working with junior teams should hold a valid WWCC.
  • Team managers and regular junior volunteers should provide WWCC details where required.
  • Paid workers should ensure their check type is appropriate for paid child-related work.
  • Volunteers are responsible for keeping their WWCC details current.
  • The club may remove a person from child-facing duties if required information is not provided.
Expected behaviour

Adults involved at the Demonstrators are expected to model behaviour that helps children feel safe, confident and respected.

  • Treat children and young people fairly and respectfully.
  • Use positive, age-appropriate language and coaching methods.
  • Avoid one-on-one situations that are isolated or unnecessary.
  • Respect personal boundaries and privacy.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians clearly and appropriately.
  • Never bully, shame, threaten, humiliate or discriminate.
  • Report safety concerns, misconduct or suspected harm promptly.
Reporting concerns

If someone is in immediate danger, call 000.

Any child safety concern, behaviour concern, injury, incident or suspected breach of club standards should be reported to the club as soon as possible.

Reports may be made to the Child Safety Officer, President, Secretary or through the club’s incident reporting form. Concerns will be handled respectfully and escalated where appropriate.

  • Child safety concerns
  • Bullying, harassment or discrimination
  • Inappropriate adult behaviour
  • Online or social media concerns
  • Injury, risk or unsafe facilities
  • Breaches of club codes of conduct
